3 Artists

Matthew Barney

Matthew Barney started his work in1987 creating his masterpiece The Cremaster Cycle in 1994. His art is strikingly different to that of other artists. It criticizes and celebrates mainstream blockbuster cinema at the same time.  The Cremaster Cycle centers conceptually around the male cremaster muscle. The project explores the embryonic process of sexual differentiation. It was originally as a video installation in a museum but was eventually cut into a feature length film. He stopped working on The Cremaster Cycle in 2002. His inspiration to create the cycle came from his interest in biology, he also uses elements of biography, mythology and geology in his work.

Sam Taylor Wood

Sam started her career as an artist in the early 1990s. She has made several video installations throughout her career including A Little Death in 2002. The short film A Little Death confronts the viewer with the reality of what happens to us after we die. The video shows a dead rabbit attached to a wall. We watch the slow process of decay which has been speeded up through fast forward.  then later on in life made a film and tried to fuse art with film creating a still image that moves at the same times. The reason why she work with art and filming at the same time was because she wanted to have the created theme a dynamic art, to create a more motional meaning behind the art.

Bill Viola

Bill Viola Started his art since 1973 where he first travelled to Italy then he started traveling from other countries to try and learn art then he got to a level where he was able to form his art to another level. soon after he finished traveling he then started making films combined with art for example the Silent Mountain. What happens in the video is you see a man screaming but you can't hear him at the same time, the video is one of his dynamic art. Viola has also taken pictures using people and the elements of water to create a unique style.
